Installation of a DYMO LabelWriter Twin Turbo software and hardware is easy if you're well informed on all the phases of the process. Even if the manual is misplaced, a little information should be enough to get you through. Instructions are included for installing the printer as a network printer for both Windows and Apple computers.

Hardware installation is done by connecting all of the parts. Leave the USB unplugged until the software asks for the USB plug. First connect the power cable into the box on the power adapter. The power adapter is the cord with the black bow on one end. On the end with the box is a place to plug in the power cord. The power cord is the one that has an outlet plug on one end. The end opposite the outlet plug will be inserted to a jack on the black box of the power adapter. The opposite end of the power adapter plugs in to the underside of the DYMO LabelWriter Twin Turbo (on the right-hand side if the printer is pointed to the ceiling). Plug in the wall socket end of the power cord.

Unload all of the packing in the label printer by opening the printer top compartment and pulling out the wadding from inside the printer. Close the compartment again and then push the buttons on the front of the label printer so that the paper that protected the printer from damage during shipping is ejected.

Open the top again and remove one spindle for the labels to go on, retaining the orientation of the spindle as the labels were slid on. Open the spindle by sliding the two spindle disks away from each other. The labels should be oriented to come forward on the bottom. The spindle halves should slide together on either side of the label so that there is no gap between the two sides and the labels that slide onto the spindle axle. Put the spindle back where it was with the labels still oriented forward and under for unrolling. Be certain that you have the side to the left pushed all the way to the left. If the label does not automatically feed through, push the button on the front of the label printer under the slot where the labels eject. Repeat this procedure for the next label, then close the cover.

Get the software drivers for installation from the CD that came with the device or the from link in Resources below. Install the drivers by running the .exe file on your computer. If the computer asks for permission to run the file, make sure that running the program is allowed. Windows users should look for the program under the start menu, then programs. If the file is Linux, install as with other .iso files. On an Apple, an icon will appear for the program. Follow the instructions and plug in the USB cable when asked.

Installing the DYMO LabelWriter as a shared printer for Windows users is done by clicking 'Control Panel' on the Start Menu. Select 'Printers and Faxes.' Right click 'Sharing,' then 'Share This Printer.' Start the installation software and choose Network (LAN) when the option comes up. The Windows Add Printer Wizard pops up. Click 'Next' and then 'Finish.' This needs to be done for each printer added. That means to do this twice since this model is actually two printers in one. For Apples, the printer is installed for the Apple Menu by clicking 'System Preferences' and then 'Print & Fax' (with a double click). When the window pops up, select the Sharing tab/button. Then check the box to share these printers with other computers along with every box in front of the printers that you wish to share. End the dialog.

  • The blue status light tells you that the printer is ready to print after installation (solid blue) or that it needs attention (flashing). If it needs attention, it is usually because labels need to be loaded or there is a paper jam. The manufacturer makes a point to mention that there is no need to purchase ink since the labels are printed by the way that heat that reacts with the labels.
